Prepare Your Home Theater for Sports Season with Avidia

As sports enthusiasts gear up for the upcoming season, there's no better time to transform your home theater or media room into the ultimate entertainment hub. A well-designed space that incorporates an immersive surround sound system and a projector/screen combination can make all the difference, bringing the excitement of Soldier Field or United Center right into your Wilmette or Greater Chicago-area living room.

Below, we’ll share a few images of a recent Glencoe project inspired by a recent custom home theater project we completed in collaboration with Newgard Custom Homes, so keep reading to learn how to prepare your own space for an immersive sports experience.

Designing the Perfect Home Theater for Sports

In our latest project, we aimed to create a home cinema experience that delivers exceptional performance for movies and sports while maintaining an inviting and practical space for entertainment. Here are some key elements we incorporated to achieve this balance:

1. Open and Inviting Layout

To keep the home theater both inviting and practical, we opened up the back wall to connect the space with the adjacent recreation room. This design choice not only keeps the theater connected to the main entertainment area but also allows natural light to brighten the room, making it more versatile for different occasions.

In your own entertainment room upgrade, if space allows, consider an open-concept design that connects your theater with other activity-filled areas in your home. This approach will make your media room more versatile and inviting for gatherings.

2. High-Performance Surround Sound

The audio system is a critical component of any home theater. For this project, we installed seven in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, complemented by two in-wall subwoofers.

These elements are crucial for delivering the 360-degree soundscape needed to capture the intensity of live sports. By hiding the speakers behind custom acoustical panels and the screen itself, we maintained the room's sleek and polished aesthetic without sacrificing sound quality.

Consider upgrading your current sound setup to include strategically placed speakers and subwoofers to immerse you in the game. You’ll feel like you’re part of the crowd when you can hear the crash of helmets and pads coming from all around you.

3. Stunning Visuals with Advanced Projection

For the visuals to match the audio's impact, we used a special gray screen paired with a bright laser projector. This combination provides a high-quality picture even with the lights on in the recreation area at the back of the room, ensuring you won't miss a moment of the action.

For your own upgrade, invest in a high-quality projector and screen for clear, bright images. Look for options that perform well in various lighting conditions to enjoy games day or night. A clear, vibrant display is essential for watching sports and brings every play to life.

4. Seamless Equipment Integration

All of the theater's equipment is tucked away in a custom equipment rack, keeping the space clean and uncluttered. This kind of thoughtful integration enhances the room’s functionality without detracting from its aesthetic appeal.

By keeping equipment out of sight, you can focus on the fast-paced action on the screen, not the gadgets in the room. Use custom racks or cabinetry to conceal your equipment, maintaining a clean, organized space that focuses on comfort and enjoyment.
