Prioritizing the View

As summer approaches, many homeowners in the Barrington, IL, area are preparing their outdoor spaces for ultimate relaxation and entertainment. At the forefront of these preparations is the installation of innovative solutions that enhance comfort while maintaining aesthetic appeal!

One such project involved installing a 15-foot, 250-pound motorized Progressive Screen in a pavilion. This upgrade, which includes in-ceiling speakers, an electric heater control, and two outdoor TVs integrated with the Crestron Home System, promises to revolutionize the outdoor experience.

Ensuring an Unobstructed View

One of the primary concerns for this installation was ensuring that the Progressive Screen complemented the pavilion without obstructing the view of the pool. To achieve this, we custom-selected the color of the screen housing to match the pavilion seamlessly. This attention to detail ensured that the screen became a cohesive part of the outdoor space's design. Additionally, we carefully chose a fabric density that provided ample shade while still allowing for a clear view. This material blocks up to 80% of the sun, providing the client with comfort and visibility so she can keep an eye on her children as they play in the pool.

Features & Materials of the Screens

The Progressive Screens installed are made of outdoor-rated materials designed to withstand a variety of weather conditions, making them perfect for the unpredictable Great Lake climate. The fabric used in the screens blocks 80% of the sun's rays, reducing glare and heat while still allowing for visibility. This material is UV-resistant and built to endure the harsh Chicago winters without degrading. The screens are also equipped with side channels that keep the fabric securely tensioned, ensuring a clean and professional look at all times. These features make the Progressive Screens an ideal addition to any outdoor area or space, offering durability and functionality without compromising style!

Unique Challenges & Considerations

Outdoor installations always come with their own set of challenges, and this project was no exception. One significant challenge was the size of the opening we needed to cover. At 17 feet long, it required a robust solution. We managed to address this by installing a single, seamless unit that provided complete coverage without any gaps. This installation provided the necessary shade and comfort and maintained the pavilion's aesthetic integrity.

In addition to the screen installation, the outdoor space was enhanced with in-ceiling speakers, an electric heater control, and two outdoor TVs—all integrated into the Crestron Home System. This integration allows the homeowner to control all aspects of the outdoor environment from a single interface, ensuring convenience and ease of use. Whether adjusting the volume of the speakers, changing the TV channels, or controlling the heater, the Crestron system provides seamless automation and control.
