Enjoying the Big Game on the Patio and Movie Nights Under the Stars

Do you remember when a home's outdoor entertainment consisted of an under-eave speaker directed at the patio area? One-directional and anything but detailed, there were areas with great audio at the ideal volume, surrounded by seating areas where you could barely hear each other talk and others where the music was a whisper.

When it came time to watch the big game or a movie under the stars, you pulled out an old projector or brought a TV out from the basement.

Times have definitely changed.

As a leading Chicagoland technology integrator, our team at AVIDIA has watched the outdoor entertainment landscape transform over the past decade. Today, you can experience concert-quality music, stunning images in full sun, and surround sound that immerses you in the moment. Who needs four walls when you can have a home theater in your own backyard?

Recently, we had the pleasure of installing an outdoor TV for a client. The challenge? How do we install it so that it's visible from the pool and the seating area—two outdoor spaces in polar opposite locations?

Let's find out.

The Request

Our client requested a large TV to be accessible from the pool, sitting area, and outdoor dining area. As you can see from the pictures, the sitting area was tucked away near the home, a place that had the benefit of partial shade during hot spells. It's a space ideally suited for the big game enjoyed around a table firepit with friends or the morning news and that first cup of coffee. The pool stretched beyond the home, a perfect place to relax, float in a lounge chair, and watch a movie under the stars.

Was there a way to have both?

The Project

At AVIDIA, we partner with the industry leaders in home entertainment. For these unique requirements, we decided on a 75-inch SunBrite TV. Installing a ceiling mount allowed it to rotate 360 degrees, making it accessible from the pool and the sitting area. We also installed a soundbar for better audio coverage throughout the outdoor area.

Selecting the Outdoor TV

We chose Sunbrite for this particular project for several reasons.

  • 4K UHD HDR TVs deliver stunning, lifelike pictures with vibrant colors and extreme color contrast.
  • Proprietary TruVision anti-glare and direct LED backlit technology provides dramatic picture detail.
  • OptiView preconfigured settings optimize the screen brightness for daytime or nighttime viewing.
  • A commercial-grade ultra-bright screen ensures amazing image quality even in full sun. These TVs are up to three times brighter than typical indoor TVs.
  • They are weatherproofed to handle snow, rain, humidity, and dust in temperatures ranging from -24°F to 122°F.
  • Compatible with Amazon Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast, Roku Devices, and Apple TV.
  • Ultra-sleek, thin profile.
